My calling as an artist and teacher is to guide people into somatic and aesthetic experiences of body and nature. When we take the time to tune into what is alive both in our soma and in the natural world, new perspectives arise that can stimulate our creativity and enlarge our humanity.


Rebecca Amis Lawson, MA is a Continuum teacher and Dance/Movement Therapist. She has taught dance and performed professionally for over 30 years. She also teaches classes in yoga, pilates, somatic restructuring and alignment. She is currently in private practice as a Movement Therapist using the body and movement to facilitate the therapy process.

All classes are held at Evolving Therapies Studio in Chapel Hill.

Our vitality  is in large part determined by the dynamics of our Fluid System.  Our tissue is mostly water and its well-being is a function of the unblocked and unrestricted grace and flow of the overall fluid system.   In most cases, our everyday survival imperatives result in a compression of tissue.  In order to function, we inadvertently maintain a fixed, often rigid structure that ultimately works against our well-being.  A maladaptive closed system is perpetuated and strengthened as we move away from spontaneity, creativity and evolution.

Using sound, breath, and micro-movement, MovingWholeness Continuum Inquiry works to revitalize the fluid system and enliven the tissue.  The creative process is at work, as we unleash the energy held in our tissue.  There is a dissolve of “personal paralysis” as restricted, repetitive patterns are altered, allowing for new ways of experiencing the world and being in the world.  Continuum is about change, which creates the opportunity for discovery, growth, and healing.

MovingWholeness Continuum Inquiry Classes make use of sound, breath, micro movement and deep listening to enliven the fluid system within the participant.  This experience creates a time and space wherein we evolve, both physically and emotionally.  “Change” occurs as our conditioned inertia and patterns are clarified and allowed to shape-shift. 

The work catalyzes a connection with oneself and the possibility for higher consciousness.  MovingWholeness is healing…we move toward freedom and authenticity, as the body, mind, and emotions open and transform. 

     Tuesday Morning 9:30 AM– 11:30 AM

Dwelling In Silence is a 45 minute class devoted to meditation and space.  We open with a sound stream and then silently rest in spacious, sensory awareness. 

  Tuesday Morning 8:30 AM– 9:15 AM

    Dates:    January 16, 23, 30, Feb. 6,13, 20, March 13, 20, 27 .  Cost $45  or $5 per class. Come just for this class or stay for the  Continuum MovingWholeness class  afterwards.

Fluid Strength  We will begin each class with a fascial warm up.  Then, following the patterns of water (spirals,  arcs, curves, and waves), we will use movement,  weights, rollers and balls to inspire, strengthen, and expand your fluid movement repertoire.  We will attune to dynamic alignment, and the principles of core strength, tensegrity, and engaging in the spatial kinesphere.  Deep, dynamic, and expressive breathing and sounds accompany the exercises.

   Thursday mornings 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Stretch and “Tone” a yoga based stretch class using sounds and active breaths to deepen the process.Our goal is to facilitate ease of movement, fluidity, better alignment with strong, resilient tissue. We will journey slowly and deeply to alive and fun.  No prior movement experience is necessary. Laughing is useful.

What to Bring

Wear comfortable clothes to move in.

Pre-registration is required for all classes. Class size is limited to 10 people.  Early registration is recommended.

Cancellation Policy:
Please read the following "new" policy for class registration and make-ups. Thank you.

As a Movement teacher and your friend, I would love for everyone to take classes free of charge. However, because this is my "work," and because I wear the hat of administrator, book keeper, marketer, bill collector, and teacher, I need to establish policy.

It is helpful if you preregister for class. This way I know if a class will have enough
participants, or if the class is full. And, I want to add, that I do understand if this is not possible. We have busy, ever changing lives. However, if you do preregister, some clarity is set in place. There will be fewer emails and phone calls for me to remember. This said, drop-ins are more than welcome. The policy remains the same: space permitting and a $5.00 surcharge.

New policy: If you do preregister and miss a class, you are allowed one make-up class during the series in which you are registered (in any class). A make-up cannot be carried over into the next series. The old policy has become somewhat time consuming and confusing at times. Of course, if a class is cancelled due to inclement weather or for personal reasons, you will be credited that class or refunded.
